The story of the Funky Bus

The Funky Bus was born on September 10, 1968, when it was sold from Modern Motors in The Dalles, Oregon for a whopping $3,489. It was a white panel bus and had the add-on camper kit installation and pop-up top. Over the course of the next 40 years, it went through 9 different owners, was painted yellow, then brilliant blue, and then had some groovy house windows installed on the side panels. Through the late 80s and 90s, it mostly sat and rusted away in Oregon.

Current owner Dan Funk came across this rusty bus in 2013, and purchased it with one stipulation. Sitting on the dash was a homemade ceramic purple turtle ashtray. Each owner had passed down the turtle from one owner to the next, and it was NOT allowed to leave the bus.

Since then the Funky Bus went through a full body restoration with a new motor, beautiful new paint job, and some much needed interior work. But it’s still the original bus at heart with the original windshield, steering wheel, and of course, the homemade ceramic purple turtle ashtray.

A Look Inside

It’s all in the details.

The Funky Bus features a custom brilliant blue color throughout the entire exterior and the original 1968 pop-up which allows for standing room inside the bus. The bohemian inspired interior includes the classic Z bed couch that folds into a bed, black upholstery, all-white curtains, natural eucalyptus styled flooring, and for the photographers, LED white temperature changing lights. An additional bench can be added to accommodate up to 5-7 guests for limo and party bus services.
